Christian Votes

I have been pondering the atmosphere among Christians over this election. Every believer I know has said they have prayed and sought God for who to cast their vote toward. This is very good. I am only slightly confused by the fact that we, as a body, are not all voting for the same things.

Why would God lead some to vote for (or against) one candidate and others to vote for (or against) the other? In my thinking, it seemed that my sisters and brothers in Christ were either not hearing from God, or that He was doing a mysterious mix-up letting us all know that we are not in charge. This intrigued me and so I asked God to enlighten me.

God's response to my inquiry was not a new one to me. He simply said He was more concerned with His relationship with His followers. Do we trust Him? Will we obey even if it seems so wrong? So, it seems to me that if we really are seeking God, trusting Him, and wanting to obey whatever He says, it is possible for it to be very different for each of us.

I believe God is getting His church ready for the days ahead when we must trust and obey without question. He knows our individual hearts. He knows how to test our commitment to follow Him, not our own understanding of Him. If we truly desire to trust in the Lord with all our hearts, lean not on our own understanding, acknowledge Him in all we do and let Him direct our paths, then we may mysteriously be called to do something we consider as going against our beliefs. (see Proverbs 3:5) Our faith must grow stronger. Our faith must stand on the solid rock, the one who created the earth and all that is in it.

The church has shown the world some ungodly things this election season as we accused and belittled our brothers and sisters for acting differently than what we think they should. God is more concerned about our relationship with Him and believing Him over all the voices in the world. It is up to us as individuals to check ourselves. We must sort out our own choices over our obedience to God. It is not for me to tell others what God has said to them.

Sovereign God, You are King over all. It is to You I submit. I trust You because You love perfectly. You keep all of your promises.I agree that it would be very difficult for me to vote for someone I believe is so far from You, but like Abraham who was called to sacrifice Issac, I want to obey in faith. I choose to believe that You will raise up the person we need at this time. I go to the polls today submitting my will to You. Help my faith to grow strong. Help me to be a light that shines for You and You alone. Help us all as Your church to bring love to the world. Let the world know we are Christians by our love! Amen

Election Thoughts

I am convinced that our beloved country is running far away from its Christian roots. Yesterday's election was difficult. The polls prove that we are sharply divided in what direction we should take. The presidential winner proves that our country is aiming for a freedom without boundaries.

It is apparent to me that the men who are representing my country and my state have a different world view than I do. They believe the world should be a place where God might be tolerated (only if He is not the God of Christians), but He is not to direct us in any way. My world view is that God, our Creator, is much wiser and more capable than man to set up guidelines for our lives. It is through Him that good prevails. His Word is the foundation on which we should stand.

So what is a Christian to do? I believe that since our home is in heaven, and we are here for just a short time, we must do the work God has asked us to do. We must occupy, stand our ground, be good stewards and do our part to further the Kingdom of God through the Good News of Jesus Christ. Above all of that, we must love one another.

Today is another day in living my life in line with God's word, even when the rest of our country or world goes the other way.

Father God, You have annointed and appointed our President as either our leader to bring us closer to You, or to lead us further into judgement for our turning away from You. It is Your will that presides. We have been complacent in our standing firm for our country's foundation in Your word. Forgive us. Thank You for allowing us to live here in America! Thank You for our rights, privileges, and opportunities to influence through our vote. I pray that our voices will be heard even in our loss. I ask You to make a way for us to work together towards You.

Looking Past the Politics

I have been watching political ads, debates, and news reports for months. I think my blood pressure rises with each barb thrown. If possible I avoid the bias of the ads and news reports. In the debates I want to believe that under the words being said there is subtace and a guide for the direction our beloved country is heading. I am not certain that I have found it.

I know the name of the person I will mark on my ballot, but I cannot say I really know the man and how he will govern. I can only decide from his past actions and consistent words. I would hope all voters will do the same

My greatest stress with election politics, however, comes not from the candidates but from Facebook and email friends who villify every detail of the opponent of their chosen hero. The anger, name calling, and finger pointing is creating a divide that will be difficult to cross when we need to come together.

It is my opinion that we the people cannot save our country from destruction by casting a vote. We must look to a higher power, the One to whom the Founding Fathers turned when building the foundation of our government. The person who wins the election is not to be our king. He is a servant appointed by God through the will of the people to lead us into judgement or freedom from bondage.

In light of my convictions about our country and this election, I have decided to look first at my self. Am I turned towards God and His will for my life? Am I an obedient servant of the Most High God and His truth revealed in scripture? Will I stand firm for God's way of living over my selfish desires? Will I vote for God's annointed and appointed one whoever that might be? Will I accept the results with gratitude? I cannot predict the future, but I know the One who holds it in His hands. My vote will be made with a prayer on my lips and my Father God as my focus.

Father Eternal, You are Wise, All-knowing, and All-powerful. You alone hold the keys to our future as a people founded on Your truth. Forgive us for turning our backs on You and believing that we are in control of our destiny. Thank You for the foundations on which our much loved country was founded. Thank you for men and women who are willing to serve as leaders, defenders and visionaries for "We the people." I bow my knee to You and ask that Your will be done.

We Lose

I wear black today. It is not in rejoicing of a black American president, which could have been an incredibly awesome milestone for our country, but for the unborn whose lives are now in a more perilous position, and for a people who have sold their rich American heritage for a government that will enslave us with more control over our individual lives.

I grieve for our countrymen who chose to trust a man as our leader who spoke fluently but hid so much. Our new president is a man who prefers to hide behind the press that only supports his views, his true relationships with questionable anti-American men, and failing to supply the documentation that would forever silence the questions of his citizenship. He carefully allowed only the things he wanted us to know about him to be revealed. When we have something to hide we can be sure we are wrong. There are many questions left unanswered about who this man really is and what he really stands for.

It is my belief that we have now entered a new era of slavery in our great nation. We enter slavery not because President-elect Obama is part black , but because of his desire to allow government to take over what we, as citizens, should and could do for ourselves. He would want government to do our thinking and choosing for us. Government will soon become a greater task master. Sadly we have chosen this direction and we will live with the consequences.

I return to my faith that even in this God reigns! He alone is sovereign! I trust Him.

Voting Watch

To watch or not to watch; that is the question.

All indications point to this election as being a nail biter. Do I really want to stay up into the wee hours of the morning like I did the first election of President Bush? I don't really want that. Neither do I think I can sit and watch the numbers as if I were at a sporting match rooting for my team to win. There is too much at stake! In the end, will waiting until tomorrows' headlines be the sanest and least stressful way to learn the outcome of this debate of what course our country will follow?

My intent is to ignore as much as possible the hype and commentary that will cover the news in red, white and blue. The problem is that my heart has been invested in the political races from the beginning and I may find myself pulled by the magnet of hope and intense desire for the best.

As I lay my head down to sleep tonight I pray that I will find rest and peace, sweet dreams and the truth of knowing that God is sovereign and He is in control and above all He is good, wholly good no matter what the outcome of man's vote.
